105 Best Movies of All Time

My movie list is up, and I think it’s all working properly. I hope you enjoy reading about my favorite movies, and maybe you’l find a few you haven’t seen and would like to try. I have seen each of these movies, and they’re my favorites so far. There may be better movies out there, but I haven’t seen them yet. Click on the green stripe, Semicolon’s 105 Best Movies of All Time. If you know of any movies you think should replace any of the ones on the list, leave a note in the comments. (NOTE: I don’t like sex or nudity on screen, and I don’t enjoy blood spatters there either.)

  1. What a great movie list! There are so many movies there that I’ve not seen for absolutely ages…I’m going to have to add a few to my rental list!
Thanks for the reminder…especially the old greats!

  2. I think “The Usual Suspects” (1995) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114814/ is worth noting. Or maybe it was just because I was bored out of my wits one day, and just picked this one out of the blue to go see, and it left me with that feeling you get when it was over, of “what a great movie”, that was!

  3. OK, I found it. I guess the big question is whether these are the 150 best movies, or simply your favourite 150. 🙂 I had a look at the IMDB Top 250 and was reminded of quite a few good movies that you missed – Cold Comfort Farm one, also The Matrix, Run Lola Run and The Green Mile. And that’s just the newer ones. Kind Hearts and Coronets, The Battleship Potemkin, The Seventh Seal, Lawrence of Arabia

The List goes on. There are so many great movies!

So I’m not sure how you manage to fit Back to the Future on the list. 😉

  4. Oh, and the list is in alphabetical order, Chris. 🙂

Thanks for doing it, Semicolon. Everyone is going to come up with their own personally distinct list, but yours is a good one.

  5. We have 4 kids from 11 months to 8 years old next Saturday. Some of our favorites that did not make your list are:
The Emperor’s New Groove – a fun take off on all the old Bing Crosby/Bob Hope road pictures my parents always loved.
Bugsy Malone – the boys love the splurge guns that shoot whipped cream
Kiki’s Delivery Service – a very sweet Japaneese anamation movie by Hayao Miyazaki
Spirited Away – also by Hayao Miyazaki that is just amazing to watch. The flying is wonderful.
Support Your Local Sheriff – James Garner in our absolute favorite Western/comedy

And our family’s All Time Favorite Movie
    Blake Edward’s The Great Race
with Tony Curtis as the good guy who always wears white and Jack Lemmon as the bad guy in black. Natalie Wood as the Love Interest. Keenan Wynn and Peter Falk as the side-kicks and a car race from New York to Paris. This has the best pie fight ever filmed. It is almost 3 hours long but on a rainy day that is a feature.

  6. We saw The Great Race a little while back. We all thought it was.. hmm, very scary. lol. I guess it was just a little beyond us. =P It was very long…

Someone up there said the Matrix. I love that movie, as does some of my other siblings and my dad. But Mommy wont see it. Don’t ask me why.

Some how I hate the title ‘organizer daughter’. 🙂
    Child number 4

  7. It’s interesting; you’ve got a couple of movies on here that I just can’t stand–although, or perhaps because I’ve loved them on stage and love the Broadway soundtrack (not that I’m old enough to have seen them on Broadway, mind you: Camelot, West Side Story, and (to a lesser extent) Fiddler on the Roof. I’ve got all three Broadway soundtracks nearly memorized, and the movies are Just Wrong.

  8. i really enjoyed your list — there were so many of my favorites here. our family favorite for all time is Henry V, but we have a string of four teenage boys and we are heavy into the leadership message. i will be posting more of my previously-published reviews, some of which are in groups around themes. we do love movies at our house!
