Email from a Family Living in Southern Thailand

Dear Friends and Family,

Thank you for your prayers for Phuket.

I wept with a lady yesterday – she cried her way through her story – her family was at the beach – they saw the wave coming – she, her husband, and five-year started running – she was holding her 8-month old baby. When the wave caught them, she couldn’t hold on to her baby – the baby is gone.
An American woman had her bungalow collapse on her and her boyfriend at Phi Phi Island. She was drug underwater then pilings landed on top of her. She laid under pilings for an hour. Her hand was almost severed. They got her to our hospital where doctors operated for eight hours to save her hand. It looks good now, but what an ordeal.
Pat, my friend here, just called. He is helping up North in Khao Lak – probably one of the worse areas now, due to no infrastructure. He is walking the beach and pulling up bodies and tying them to trees – so they do not float away. There are few to help – too many died.
If you want to pray for specific people, go to www.phuketpc.com – you will see lists of people in hospitals, people looking for lost ones, and lost ones who are alive trying to contact family members. Pray for these people.
We are setting up a fund here to help people. You can mail funds direct to Mission Advance and designate for Phuket Tidal wave assistance – mail to

Mission Advance
P.O. Box 487,
Pilot Point, TX. 76258

Checks to be made out to Mission Advance.
I will be visiting hospital patients today – please pray for a release of the gifts of healing and salvation today!
Thank you for your encouragement,
Mike and Susan Cegielski

Dear Intercessors,

Thank you for your continued prayers.
What a challenging day yesterday. As we hear about the tragedy across Asia, we seek to do our part to serve on our island. While we have our infrastructure intact, there is still much work to be done.
I was at the airport yesterday when 49 Japanese arrive to help with body recovery / identification and community support – wow! Other teams are arriving also. A much needed forensic team is coming to help with identification of the thousands of deceased that are now being collected. Please pray that this work can be done quickly to minimize the spread of disease, and that families of deceased can be effectively notified and supported through this tragedy.
I have watched Thailand’s public notices of the deaths here – they appear to be 10x off and rather than 1500 deaths, is should be at least 15,000 if not more.
I helped a German family yesterday – the wife is dead, the father and daughter alive. The dad got secondary infections yesterday and they had to amputate his leg. We took the eight-year old daughter to a German family’s home here for the night. While the father was alive after the operation, the doctor said that the infection ahs spread to his hip and he might die this next few days. Please pray for Rudeiger and his daughter Lea.
We need some administrative gifts today. I will be organizing a recovery center at Bang Tao beach – north of Patong and Kamala, the worst hit areas on Phuket. I help manage a beach hotel there (or used to) and I will be trying to set up a recovery center on the property. Please pray for:
1. Andaman Seaview Resort owners to agree to let us use their hotel.
2. Locals to provide equipment and physical labor to get the community working again.
3. Ability to touch the locals – most Muslim – to see Jesus through our service.
4. Gift of healing as we continue to visit all the hospitals.
5. Financial means to purchase needed supplies to help this community.
6. Leadership to rise up to take care off the many needs in this community.

  1. Thank God for you and the many who are stepping up at this time. As with all tragedies, it never seems we can do enough. God is faithful so we must trust and pray. I am a carpenter and have been blessed to work with many here in Southern thailand through this disaster. We will pray for you.
