Books Are Better Than Money

Here’s a cause I can support wholeheartedly: books for a struggling school in Slovakia. Short version:

Slovakian teenagers, at a small and poor
school set amongs the towers of a Soviet-era apartment block, trying
to learn English (which they call “the language of freedom and
opportunity,”) but with no books.

So I thought we could help build a library, and have something to
feel good about along the way.

Got an extra copy of The Fountainhead or Old Yeller or the works of
T. S. Eliot lying around? Here’s your chance to use them to do some
good.

This school is Strengthen the God’s featured charity for today. Take a minute to read the full story at Strengthen the Good. And you can go to the website for the school itself here. Warning: a lot of the text is in Slovak, but some things are in English. Pack up a few books and send them—for Christmas. I am humbled to think that my homeschool has a better library than this school serving many high school students.
