Now’s the Time

Carmon at Buried Treasure has this post encouraging us ignorant Republicans ond other conservatives to call our Senators and ask them not to appoint Senator Arlen Specter (R., Pennsylvania) to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee. Specter has already warned Bush not to send pro-life nominees to the Senate to be confirmed.

Specter is in line to succeed the current chairman, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah), who is barred by internal GOP rules from chairing the committee for more than six years. Though Specter could be blocked by a vote to waive the term-limit restriction on Hatch or by a veto from the Senate Republican Conference, the chances of either are near zero, according to GOP staff members. If Specter loses, however, the chairmanship would fall to Sen. Jon L. Kyl (R., Ariz.), who is significantly more conservative than Specter. Philadelphia Enquirer (registration required)

If “red state values voters” made the difference in this election, then it’s time we got something tangible out of it. Specter would be a disaster in this important position.

Update: Southern Appeal says Specter may be in trouble.
