i thought this article about

i thought this article about a small co-op school in Providence, RI was interesting–although the author says something toward the end of the article that indicates to me that she really doesn’t get it. Apparently, she thinks that alternative forms of education–parent-led schools, co-ops, homeschooling–are only a last resort, and we should be putting our time and efforts into improving the public schools. Why is improving the public schools a moral obligation? Why can’t improving education for just a few children, maybe your own and few others, be just as morally justified as “improving the public schools?” The object is the education of young people, not the perpetuation of a certain system.
