New Hobby

I have a new hobby, and it only costs $2.00 a week. (Yes, I know that $2.00 a week means $104.00 a year.) My new hobby is . . .
iTunes. I plan to buy exactly two songs per week and enjoy lots of nostalgic moments. So far, I’ve bought the following songs:

Simon and Garfunkle: Scarborough Fair
Simon and Garfunkel: Bridge Over Troubled Water
Eagles: Desperado
Roberta Flack: The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
From Lord of the Rings: Into the West
Artist Unknown: Eres Tu

I just found the words to Eres Tu here. Anyone else remember this ballad from the late 70’s, I would guess?

ERES TU
(Juan Carlos Calderon)

Como una promesa eres tu, eres tu,
Como una manana de verano.
Como una sonrisa eres tu, eres tu.
Asi, asi eres tu.

Como una esperanza eres tu, eres tu,
Como lluvia fresca en mis manos
Como fuerte brisa eres tu, eres tu
Asi, asi eres tu

Yes, I do have an incurable nostalgic and romantic streak. And don’t insult my eclectic taste in music. I plan to have Computer Guru Son turn my cassette tape of Keith Green into computer files next and load that into the iTunes, too–right next to Simon and Garfunkel and Pachelbel’s Canon.

  1. Scarborough Fair is one of my all time favorites. When I was younger I was able to play a beautiful version on the guitar; still have the sheet music. I have been checking out my cd’s from the library lately. What about James Taylor or Cat Stevens??

  2. I love iTunes. My hubby gave me a $40 gift certificate there a few months ago, and I solicited the help of my readers to choose the music. I have the same nostalgia. Last year I found a 4-CD set of John Denver at the thrift store, something I wouldn’t have bought new, and I’ve really enjoyed listening to many of the songs, ignoring some of the more rabid environmentalist ones. I bought some ABBA tunes not long ago, too.

For his birthday, I made a playlist for Steve of romantic songs, and I burned a CD for him, decorating the CD case and making liner notes. He really liked it ;-).

  3. Regarding ERES TU—I remember the song well, but wonder what classical composition the music to the chorus is based on. Does anyone know?
