Lyrics and Music: Bill and Gloria Gaither

Theme: He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:6
He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee. Luke 24:6
“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. Mark 16:6

Here Gloria explains the genesis of this hymn:

The clothes, hair, and music are a bit more up to date in this version:

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!
Chorus:
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

And then one day, I’ll cross the river,
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to vict’ry,
I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives!

  • This is so far my favorite song and performance by the Gaither Trio. Just so beautiful and great vocals!!! I too am a musician {vocals & guitar} and just over the past few weeks have become a Reborn Christian. It has been a very long and hard struggle for me, but through a lot of prays and the love from others, I finally open my eyes and heart.
