Saturday Review of Books: September 16, 2006

Posted by Sherry on Sep 16, 2006 in General, Saturday Reviews |

Here’s how it works, folks. Find a review on your blog posted sometime this week of a book you’re reading or a book you’ve read. The review doesn’t have to be a formal sort of thing. You can just write your thoughts on a particular book, a few ideas inspired by reading the book, your evaluation, quotations, whatever.

Now post a link here to the specific post where you’ve written your book review. Don’t link to your main blog page because this kind of link makes it hard to find the book review, especially when people drop in later after you’ve added new content to your blog. Please add only one book review per customer per week. (However, if your children, friends, or other family members have their own blogs and have written on a book, they are welcome to add their own link.) In parentheses after your name, add the title of the book you’ve written about. This addition will help people to find the reviews they’re most interested in reading.

Thanks to everyone for reviewing, blogging, and linking.

Thanks for doing this, I just discovered your website last week, what a great idea!

  • Jane says:

Sorry, mine seemed to post twice, it always does that on linky’s – if you know what I am doing wrong, let me know, thanks!

  • Janie says:

I’m still in The Intellectual Life. So many nuggets of wisdom there.

  • My review of Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind is up. Light, but fun!

  • MFS says:

‘morning, Sherry. Earlier in the week, I posted the ALA link re: Banned Books Week and the RDA — 120 Banned Books: Censorship Histories of World Literature. Best regards. Melissa

  • K says:

This is a wonderful idea. You can ignore and, if you have the power, the link that says simply “Kevin Fenton.” I posted too quicly and didn’t note the book.

  • Diana says:

I can’t seem to comment here; I’ll try this again with my fingers crossed…

  • Diana says:

    Problem fixed!

I just found this site last week through MMV and love the idea. Thanks for hosting this. I hope to read all of you this weekend!

  • Thanks again for hosting this. I love the variety, and linked to one review, but had a couple others this week, too.

  • Cathy says:

A review from last week, but I haven’t had time to write one this week. :-)

Great idea, thanks! My mom sent me the link last week. I think she first saw this at mmv too.

  • Posted a link to a review of an interesting book: Disobedience by Naomi Alderman. Deals with an Orthodox Jewish community in London.

  • Whoops! forgot to add the book name after my name. It’s Moonbeams from the Larger Lunacy, by Stephen Leacock.

  • I posted an excerpt from Eusebius’ Church History. It’s a wonderful story about the apostle John in his old age.

  • Brenda N says:

I wrote about the Tea Shop Mystery series because it has so many things I enjoy…tea, tea foods, people who love tea time and a great storyline.

These are my books I read when I want to “get away from it all”.

  • Brenda N says:

Sorry, I forgot to put “Tea Shop Mystery” next to my name!

  • Isabella says:

Fantastic idea, and such a great variety of books! I had some thoughts on Arturo Perez-Reverte’s Captain Alatriste this past week. Happy reading!

  • ChristineMM says:

Love this idea. Just added mine: The World is Flat by Thomas Freidman. Found your blog from the Why Homeschool blog. This is right up my alley.
