Saturday Review of Books: September 9, 2006

This Saturday Review of Books is working for me. I’m gettig an average of 15 or more links to book reviews each week. Out of those, I usually find one or two that I really want to read. What treasure for a slow Saturday!

For the uninitiated, here’s how it works. Find a review on your blog posted sometime this week of a book you’re reading or a book you’ve read. The review doesn’t have to be a formal sort of thing. You can just write your thoughts on a particular book, a few ideas inspired by reading the book, your evaluation, quotations, whatever.

Now post a link here to the specific post where you’ve written your book review. Don’t link to your main blog page because this kind of link makes it hard to find the book review, especially when people drop in later after you’ve added new content to your blog. Please add only one book review per customer per week. (However, if your children, friends, or other family members have their own blogs and have written on a book, they are welcome to add their own link.) In parentheses after your name, add the title of the book you’ve written about. This addition will help people to find the reviews they’re most interested in reading.

Thanks to everyone for reviewing, blogging, and linking.

  1. I’ve been reading The Intellecutal Life (Sertillanges) and have some more quotes here and here. I’m sure more excerpts will follow until I finish this treasure of a book.

  2. I’ll stop now. It’s still not taking. If interested, the entry is “Friendship” at Seasonal Soundings.

  3. This weekend’s “On the nightstand” features quotes from and opinions about several books I’m reading. Does this violate the spirit of of the “Saturday Review of Books”? If I’ve erred, please delete my entry.

I’m off to post a link at M-mv. Enjoy a wonderful weekend, Sherry.

  4. For the life of me, I CANNOT figure out what I do that makes my entry post twice every. single. time. Ergh. Please accept my apology, dear Sherry.

  5. Thank you for hosting this; it is a great idea. I read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, and didn’t know what to expect, since I’d read mixed reviews.

  6. I feel a little like I’m cheating since I read the book because of MentalMultivitamin’s review, and I’ve posted little more than a couple of excerpts. But I like this idea, and I read enough books to be able to contribute fairly regularly.:-)

  7. I read a children’s book by Gary Paulsen and tied a quote from it to Fine Art Friday. It’s a great book for a budding artist. Also, today there is a quote from P.G. Wodehouse’s The Catnappers, but it really couldn’t be construed as a review. I guess the other isn’t either, but I’d like to participate. Sherri, this is a great idea.

  9. I am trying to find a book reviewer for my Red Hat group to address a luncheon in my home in December 06. I’m looking for someone who can casually talk about lots of different books in general, so that my friends would feel better informed about purchasing book gifts for the holiday season – even for grandchildren. Any ideas?
