Safia Taleb Al Souhail

Safia

So, I’ll admit that I teared up when I saw this woman, who voted three days ago in the Iraqi elections, stand up and hold up her fingers as a shaking symbol of peace and freedom at the president’s State of the Union address. Also, I was moved when she turned to embrace the woman who had lost her son in Iraq so that Iraqis could vote. Whatever your politics, who wouldn’t be moved? Who would refuse to pray for the peace and freedom of Iraq?

  1. Following Joe Carter’s idea, I’m doing the “Meet your Neighbors” theme every weekday. Tag, you’re it. Anyhow, nice blog, I wish I had the time to read as much as I used to. 🙂

    Peace.

  2. If you did some research on this woman you would see that her sister was quoted as wanting to sue the U.S. for its compliance with Saddam’s people in the assination of her father in Lebanon. He was a shiek who ruled 1 million people in Iraq and was all set to overthrow Saddam with U>S> assistance when he was killed in Lebanon. Safia herself posted stories condeming the U.N. for an organization inclusing many neo-cons in the government and conservatives in the U.S. even before the war in Iraq. Safia was reported to have been out of Iraq for 30 years and just recently went back to work for Bremer’s CPA. An article said she went back to get her family’s money and property. She is no ordinary Iraqi voter but is a high profile, high stakes emigree connected to people high up in the U.S. government. Still have a tear in your eye or was this scripted for people like you who fell for it.

  3. Safia Taleb Al Souhail has every reason to be relieved that Saddam Hussein has been overthrown and Iraq occupied. She is not, however, someone who endured the invasion while living in Iraq, as implied. Her family was reportedly in exile for thirty years.

Very sad. There are a million sad stories in the world. In Africa Christians are slaughtered every day because governments wants to establish muslim theocracies. Should we invade Sudan? Osama Bin Laden is most likely in Pakistan. Shouldn’t we invade Pakistan? The perpetrators of 0-11 were mostly from Saudi Arabia and Saudis financed radical Islamists worldwide. Why haven’t we invaded Saudi Arabia?

Why are you willing to send American kids to be slaughtered in the middle east?
