THE LIST: 2006

THE LIST of books I want to read, that is. I tried to link or make a note about where I got the idea to add each book to my list. If you recommended one of these , and I didn’t link to you, please leave a comment. I know the list is way too long, but I”m absolutely helpless. How can I cut it down? 1. I read Possession this year and really enjoyed it.

The Shell Seekers is one of my favorites (not saying I recommended it, just saying I loved it). Not a perfect book, but I found it at the right time. It’s also an easy read, which is nice sometimes. And it doesn’t make you want to kill yourself.

  2. Ah Ender’s Game… One of my all-time favorites. Orson Scott Card is absolutely marvelous – although you will get a bit of Mormon theology and a little new age stuff if you read all of his work. Be prepared not to stop with Ender’s Game – you will probably want to read the entire series – Plus the new parallel series which tells the same time period through the eyes of a different character. All really good stuff!

Bit of Ender trivia… Ender’s Game is on the required reading list for Marine Officers. Cool huh?

  3. I thought my list was ambitious! Of course, now I have to go add a couple I found here. The Mark of the Lion trilogy contains three of my favorite books. I re-read these every couple of years or so.

  4. Dear Mother,
Actually I recommended the Winner, the Fadiman, and the Dostoevsky, as I remember it. Plus you didn’t link to me.

  5. De Vinck’s The Power of the Powerless should be read by many more Christians than it has been.

  6. Great list! I read Confederates in.. this year and liked it. I live in South Carolina and could relate to the authors journey. Christianity for Modern Pagans will be thought provoking. Finally, Kristan Lavansdatter is my fav book. If you get to it try to stick it out for a hundred pages or so and try not to get bogged down in the names of people and places. It is a timeless novel that has so many deep, important truths to show us and it is worth the effort.

  7. I’m really enjoying your lists!

Bookovers will love Education of a Wondering Man. I was so thrilled to find it in hardback at a library sale a couple years ago. It made me appreciate Louis L’Amour (sp?) and how he was self educated. He would have made a great homeschooler.
